Wintertime Sickness

What I wore:
Shirt: Target - $12
Cardigan: Webster for Target - $10
Belt: Target - $4
Skirt: Target - #22
Shoes: Target - $15
Necklace: eBay - $9

I've got that wintertime. Wintertime sickness. Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew.

Lana would be proud, guys, I'm sure of it.
It was inevitable, of course, but I'm actually rather impressed that my immune system held off this long. Just ignore the puffy eyes, bags, and swollen everything.

Never Let Go...

What I wore:
Top: Kohl's - $15
Cardigan: Target - $16
Necklace: Hello Glam - $22
Belt: from a pair of pants
Skirt: Target - $20
Shoes: Chelsea Crew - $65

You know that scene in Titanic where Jack makes Rose promise never to let him go? Well, I am feeling that way just a little bit about summer. I mean, I know eventually, I'm going to let go of summer's slippery grasp and watch it sink out of reach*, but I'm going to hold onto it as long as I can. I don't have much of a choice, of course...the weather hasn't dipped below the high 80s in September.

*sorry for any depressing and/or disturbing images...

What I Wore:
Necklace: eBay - $12
Shirt: GAP - $12
Shorts: Target - $13
Belt: from a pair of pants
Sandals - birthday gift

I took pictures inside and outside in preparation for back to work photo hours. I think this wall by my husband's grandfather's trunk (Fins's grandparents painted the Notre Dame behind me, as well) works the best for pictures when I once again have to take pictures before the sun rises. It's amazing seeing these pictures together--you can really tell the difference between natural lighting and indoor lightbulb lighting. I obviously prefer the natural lighting, but I'm also excited to wear boots again, so fall is a Catch-22. I am even more excited about the fact that we cut our commutes in half with our move to our new house, so it's possible that I might catch some early daylight hours to get my blog pictures.

Pictures for my blog are kind of a Catch-22 in themselves. If I get pictures in the morning before I leave, the timing is typically perfect, my hair and make-up are at their best (arguably) and my outfits are as wrinkle-free as they're going to get. However, morning photos require indoor photography, as I leave for work as the sun is rising. Afternoon photography can give me better lighting, but I take the picture after a long day of teaching -- and the after-effects of teaching make for wrinkled clothes, crazy hair, and questionable make-up sliding. It seems to me that my best option comes down to indoor pictures in the morning--though I have to take the occasional wrinkled-skirt photo in my classroom or when I get home in the afternoon.

I feel guilty when I post photos with bad lighting or wrinkled clothes -- and I've even given a lot of thought to ending my blog because the quality of photographs lack what I see in other blogs. After a lot of thought and advising from Fins, I remembered that I started this blog for myself -- and it has done a world of good for me and my style. I find so much joy in talking with all of you, getting your tips, and even your critiques. As long as I enjoy writing my blog, I'm going to keep doing it.

Either way, I don't know why I feel pressured to have magazine-polished photographs of my outfits. Is there an expectation of bloggers to have DSLR-taken-Photoshopped-outdoorsy-ethereal-scenery-marketable pictures of their clothes? I imagine if you're reading my blog, you probably completely understand my lifestyle and don't expect my blog to be a magazine, so I think I am putting that pressure on myself. You guys know what I look like--and I'm sure you have enough imagination to remove the wrinkles or sense to translate the outfit into one with out imperfections, right? Maybe I should add a disclaimer under my picture: "Some creativity and imagination required."

I don't want to sound like the blogger who has a chip on her shoulder, but I write this blog as a hobby -- it's not even close to being my only job. If you're reading this blog, it's not because I advertised or plastered my link everywhere. If I have sponsors or c/o items, it's not because I went out of my way to track them down or contacted them first. I love that my blog is more relaxed and low-maintenance--and I hope that you do, too.

Also, this post turned out a lot longer than I originally intended...It was originally entitled "Birthday Cake Shirt" and included some pseudo-witty little diatribe about how my shirt looks like sprinkles.
That's actually all I had.

Tee Rediscovery

What I Wore:
Tee: Target - $8
Skirt: Target - $5
Belt: From a pair of pants
Shoes: Plato's Closet - $6
Necklace: SassySteals - $12

This summer, I have rediscovered my love of a simple tee. I've always been a fan, but I don't think I've quite worn them as consecutively as I have been wearing them this summer. I went through a phase where I thought they were too plain and out of style, so I avoided them in order to refrain from being the girl who wears t-shirts and jeans every day (I was convinced, also, that would make for a very boring blogger). I've come to love how my most favorite outfits involve just a plain tee -- they're so easy to spice up with an interesting necklace or with an interesting "bottom." I've been especially loving my black, white, grey, yellow, and mint tees (oh, those are the only colors I own? So, all of the tees. I love all of the tees.)
Maybe my tastes have grown simpler, but I find so much use from the absolute basics...and I think that this is my new "phase," guys. Tee love is where it's at.

A Little More Interesting

What I Wore
Top: Kohl's - $18
"W" Necklace: Altar'd State - $3
Polka Dot tank: LOFT - $10
Skirt: Old Navy - $20
Belt: Target - $5
Shoes: Target - $7
Large Disk earrings: Lucky - Gift
Linking up with:
Work Clothes, I Suppose's Third Thursday Threads Neon
Vodka Infused Lemonade's Tres-Chic Thursday

Because yesterday's outfit was super bo-ring, I thought I'd spice it up a bit by posting this one. I added a polka dot tank under my sheer asymmetrical pink blouse--and added in a black and white striped skirt for good measure. I had trouble deciding what shoes to wear, but I settled on these black wedges, as I had to present my paper for the course I'm taking this summer. I'm sure this bright blouse goes against everything that "they" tell you to wear for presentations, but I decided I needed a little rebellion in my life.

Hopefully this bright, pattern mixing, layering outfit makes up for yesterday's boredom. ;)
