Unintentional Smirker

What I Wore:
Headband: Target - circa 2008 - $5?
Shirt: LOFT - $8
Gemstone necklace: gift from the husband
Monogram necklace: c/o MyNameNecklace
Skirt: Handmade by my mom
Belt: from a skirt
Shoes: Wal-Mart - $9

I didn't mean to smirk in every picture for this post. Not sure how that happened or why I made the same face, but look at it as an effort of me trying to branch out a bit more.

I got a lot of compliments on this outfit when I wore it. Seriously, everywhere I went it seemed like someone had something really nice to say about my skirt or the outfit as a whole. Truthfully, I think it's the hair. I never got as many compliments and comments about my clothes when my hair was longer. I'm definitely digging the haircut...whether I'm just around nicer people or it's bringing the nice out of people.

XO,

Your haircut is so nice because your pretty face is much more noticeable! This outfit is perfect because it is casual kicked up a notch. Chic casual? I guess that's a term!

Love the chevron skirt!

Cute and comfortable--something everyone strives for! Also, I need to learn to sew. I love that skirt every time I see you wear it!

I just love this outfit, as I usually do! I've got a post on my blog today about what teachers wear the first few days of the semester. I would love for you to check it out! http://liveloveandus.blogspot.com/2013/07/first-days-of-school.html

I love this look, but you are right, your hair is fabulous. I cut my hair back in December hoping to get bangs like yours. I can't believe your flats come from Walmart! They are so cute!

Adorable!!! You and actress Emily Blunt are masters at the smirk/closed-lip smile. I am NOT. If I do anything less than a full-on smile, it looks like I'm angry. :)

Your shoes are super cute! Walmart? Amazing.

Hi! I got a short haircut several months ago as well, and I definitely have been getting more compliments since the haircut, I think it makes people notice for sure! (And your outfit totally deserves a compliment because it is cute!)

For some reason I got an e-mail with your comment, but it's not showing on my post to reply to... I'm sure it's probably something on my new-blogging end that I need to work out. (:

Anyway- you are so welcome for the shout out. Thank YOU for the feed back! Your blog helped inspire me to actually get dressed many a morning during student teaching and I'm sure it will be a great help this coming year as well. (:

That skirt is the cutest!
I remember seeing those shoes on walmart.com a while back and thinking they were adorable--are they comfortable?

Whitney said...

Ahaha, I love your face. :) This is so cute! I think chevron is my favorite.

Super cute and easy--the hair and the outfit. Your smile is super cute, too, but I didn't want to call you easy. I keep OD'ing on chevron. Like, I love it, and want to wear it all the time (I even have a pair of chevron SOCKS), but I keep worrying that it's all too much and it's going to be like shag carpet or something in the next five or ten years. Do you have irrational fears like that?

Whitney said...

haha! So glad you didn't call me easy! :)
I'm having some chevron obsessive qualities, myself. I am jealous of those chevron socks! NEED! I think that chevron is just the new argyle. I mean, we aren't the inventors of the pattern...but what were the people with shag carpet thinking?

Whitney said...

I think chevron is pretty amazing, as well. Josie's comment made me laugh -- she asked if it might be the next shag carpet trend! haha!

My mom did a great job on the skirt! I love wearing it!
The shoes are pretty basic--they're not the most comfortable flats I own and they're a little stiff, but they work for a basic flat.

Whitney said...

Oh no! I don't know why it disappeared, but I'm glad that you saw it in the email! Thanks so much! I am so glad that I found your blog--can't wait to follow along!

It's pretty amazing how having the "right" haircut can make such a difference to the way people see you. I didn't think anything of this outfit when I put it together--but I got enough compliments on it in person that I decided to take pictures of it and post it. :) Thanks!

I never shop at WalMart, but these were totally worth ordering!

Whitney said...

Thanks so much, my gorgeous friend!

Such a compliment! Thank you! I never thought I'd be compared to Emily Blunt in any way -- pretty much made my day, Jen! You're too funny--I'm sure you could pull off a little subtle smirk!

I have a funky little cowlick going on that makes a big poof on the far side of my bangs -- I wish they'd lay down! Thank you so much!
I do love these shoes -- I went on a crazy search for nude flats with a bow and all I found were $200-$300 shoes that I didn't want to pay that much for...but $9 made me decide that WalMart wasn't so evil afterall. ;)

Whitney said...

Thank you so much for sharing! :) I'm officially following along!

Whitney said...

Thanks so much, Agi! It was a super simple pairing!

Whitney said...

You're so right! They are very laid back!

Whitney said...

Thanks so much -- I think you're super adorable, Emma!

Whitney said...

I'm still amazed that my search for these flats ended at WalMart! :) Thanks!!

Whitney said...

I would love to learn how to sew, as well! It's such an amazing art!

Whitney said...

I'm a big fan, too! :)

Whitney said...

You're too kind! Thank you! I like that description -- alert Webster! :)

Whitney said...

Oh yay, so glad it made your day!

And case in point about what I look like when I don't smile in pics... it comes across as "bitchface," as documented here in http://librarianforlifestyle.wordpress.com/2013/04/29/casual-construction/

Maybe that's just me jumping to conclusions. HAHA. Oh, I totally OD'ed on argyle, as well. But I still do wear my pieces, though just not as often. Maybe I can hang onto my chevron for a little while longer...

Whitney said...

*cue cheesy grin* Thank you!

Whitney said...

haha! you're so sassy in the 2nd pic. Love the chevron skirt!

Whitney said...

Can you find out what sewing pattern your mom used to make this adorable skirt? That would be awesome!

Whitney said...

I'm a big fan of my mom skirts -- my mom is super talented!

I think she used something similar to this one: http://www.sewinginnomansland.com/2012/03/15/crafty-cupboards-pleated-chevron-skirt/
