The Snatching Syndrome

What I Wore:
Dress: Francesca's - $30
Cardigan: J. Crew - $12
Shoes: Birthday gift
Belt: Francesca's - $10
Earrings: Target - $16

My friend and I met up for lunch and a browse around our little outdoor shopping center to hunt wedding guest dresses. I had to stop by J. Crew, as always, to browse the clearance racks and wish myself into the outfits they styled on the mannequins. She picked up this cardigan from the clearance rack...and my memory goes blank after seeing the $19.94 + 30% off price tag. I definitely don't remember her offering the cardigan to me or telling me that she picked it up for me, but I remember buying it (and getting an additional 15% off -- yay teacher discount!) for the awesome price of $12.34. She claims that she didn't intend to buy it, but I have felt so guilty for essentially snatching it out of her hands (in my defense she did say that she wasn't going to buy anything other than the specific items she was looking for before, during, and after the cardigan mishap). I was so obsessed with this cardigan when it first came out, but I didn't want to pay $78 for it. Apparently I let that obsession take control of my mental steering when my size appeared as the only one on the clearance rack for cheaper than a Target cardigan...I've apologized profusely, but that hasn't stopped me from wearing it.

I wore this out to get lunch and pedis with another girlfriend, and then a triple date night in our downtown entertainment district -- we had a great time local restaurant hopping and watching local singers, musicians, and artists!

XO,

Great find! I always mentally thank whoever returns items like this so they can be snatched up by me for a fraction of the price :)

Yay for your great J.Crew score! Love the pattern mixing

Too funny! Most of my shopping buddies are not the same size as me, but every so often my sister and I will come across one thing that we both want. It's tricky, but I think we usually can tell who wants/needs it more and use that as an indicator of who gets it! More often, a friend and I will buy the exact same thing and then we just have to be careful not to match when we hang out!

Great outfit and what a great price for that cardigan :)

I would love it if you stopped by and entered my 2 giveaways: Henri Lou Bracelet and one from Gigglosophy. Also don't forget to link up for my weekly link up this Thursday.

Um what - 12.34?! Holy wow - that's amazing! I love this look on you too! :)

That cardigan is awesome! And I love the pattern mixing with that dress! That story is too funny. You cardi snatcher, you. :)

I am so envious of your cardigan collection--all of them are so adorable! I would probably have snatched it up if I were in the same situation. "Did someone say BARGAIN?"

What a score! That cardi is so fab. And I don't buy into the whole "I can't get the same item as my friend" deal. You're friends for many reason, and likely one of those reasons is "We have similar taste." So, you know, be guilt-free on this one, I say :)

This is a great story--and I can totally, totally relate. When you see the very thing you've been pining over for..well, ever, and then for it to magically appear on a clearance rack? FATE.

Hilarious! I wish my friends were good shoppers so I could snatch things from them. Although, weirdly, for some reason I thought your post was going to have something to do with CrossFit :-)

Great story! And love the outfit - especially the nautical theme!

A blackout over a cute stripey cardi ... uh, I could really see that happening to me, too! Your new cardi plays so well with the dress and necklace - one of my all-time favorite outfits of yours, I think. And I missed the big reveal, but I wanted to say that your hair looks adorable! You look sassy and sweet and it plays up your features beautifully. :)

Whitney said...

Yes, it was a major blackout! I really love this outfit, too! Thank you!
I have really grown (ironic) to love my new haircut! I think it will stay this way for a while! Thank you so much!

Man, I don't know what compelled me to just JUMP for it when she picked it up...it was like something in me snapped! You're right--I should've used that blog title for a Crossfit post! haha!

Amen to that, Josie! :)

I have taken the perspective that I need to love everything in my closet for it to be there. I really love my cardigan collection, for sure! Thank you!

I am such an awful shopper friend! Seriously! So selfish...!
I am a big fan of this dress with this cardigan. It will happen again!

Whitney said...

haha! There was only one and I planned to be the one leaving with it, apparently!

Whitney said...

RIGHT?! Total sticker shock! :) I didn't even plan to ask if I could use my teacher discount because it was already so inexpensive, but then I just went for it and they let me.

Super big fan of J. Crew and their clearance section!

I am an in-between size, so I can get away with smalls, mediums, and sometimes larges in most stores. If the cardigan was a S, M, or L, you bet I was going to leave with it! ha!

J. Crew has some pretty awesome deals sometimes! Thanks, Tara!

True story, Ginny. I hope that whomever returned it got some good karma from my happiness. :)
