Made Up

What I Wore:
Jeans: Target - $27
Shoes: Payless - $19
Tank: Target - $15
Cardigan: BR - $60
Scarf: Christmas gift (mom)
Necklace: sister
Earrings: InPink - giveaway giftcard

For Valentine's Day, my mom gave me a very generous giftcard to a local spa. Instead of using it for the typical massage (I haven't had back issues since I started running and doing pilates (sometimes yoga) together) or mani/pedi (I deal with my own nails...and my toes have truly suffered from running -- TMI), I decided that I would use it for a visit with the make-up professional. I haven't updated my "look" since mid-college, but my skin and lifestyle have changed a lot since then. I've found myself being very lazy and haphazard with my make-up and hair. These pictures were taken after the visit--and I am very satisfied with the tips and tricks she showed me! I even used the rest of my giftcard to invest in new make-up and a skincare routine. No more dumpy-faced Whitney. Yay!

So, tell me...for the sake of weekend conversation, what's your favorite cosmetic product or tip?
XO,

you look great! this is such a great pulled together weekend look, i love it. sadly, i think anyone would be pretty horrified to hear about my skin care regime (er, lack thereof), which is pretty embarrassing. i am terrible. my makeup application hasn't changed since i started wearing makeup in college, either. i'm not sure why it's never been a priority for me. i think it would be awesome if you shared some of the tips you learned!

Before I read your post, I was about to tell you how good your makeup looked today! I really like it, and not saying that your makeup usually doesn't look good, I'm just saying that you look exceptionally good today :)

And I echo Heidi's comment, please share some of the tips you learned! :)

ok so before I even read the post I was thinking how great your make up looked. not that it looked bad before of course, but your eyes are POPPING.

Makeup tips - would love to hear what you learned! My makeup skills are rudimentary at best and I have just about given up on liquid eyeliner because it seems I have shaky hands and cannot draw a nice even line to save my life. :) You look polished, pretty, and natural - and I'm liking the textured tee with the animal print scarf and yellow cardi.

One skincare tip my mom has passed on is to always apply things like sunscreen, moisturizer, foundation, etc. to your face/neck with upward strokes vs. downward strokes. My mom says she learned it from some Shiseido cosmetics ladies who were neighbors. She swears they looked great for their age because they did this religiously!

You are drop dead gorgeous, absolutely stunning! You always look so put together from your hair to your makeup to your adorable outfits, and your makeup in these pics just enhances your natural beauty even more! Love it!

Most of the makeup tips I've learned are from Carmindy on What not to wear! She has such wonderful tips and tricks about highlighting, the right colors for each particular eyecolor and complexion, all kinds of great things!

I was pretty much thinking what everyone else commented. Love this outfit too.

SORRY I CAN'T HELP IT!!!!!

And great minds think alike, duh.

Such a great way to use the gift card! You look great!! I absolutely love Tarte makeup, it's a little pricey, but definitely worth it. And my "go-to" makeup look would be to define my eyebrows! Good brows can make or break a look!

I've seen Tarte, but I've never tried it! I might have to spend a little time around the samples in Ulta/Sephora. :)
Great point about eyebrows--definitely something I can work on!

Great minds, right? :) Thanks, Ginny!

Wow, Morgan, this was such a nice compliment! Thank you! I am excited about my new make-up for sure!

I love What Not to Wear! Carmindy is really talented and I always love seeing her transformations! I should definitely spend some time taking notes!

Most of the tips I learned are very product (and me) specific. I'm happy to share what I know, but I'm certainly not an expert either way. :) Thank you for the compliment! I've been meaning to wear this outfit for a while -- I'm glad that I found an occasion to throw it on!

I've heard that one, too! Someone told me that you should always do that because you should pay attention to how you look from below -- even though I'm short and people have to "look down" to make eye contact, my students are shorter than me and have to look up--and sometimes, you'll be in a position where someone's bending over/etc... I'm not sure how true that is or if that's even logical, but I definitely agree!

True story. I like that you ladies think alike--it makes me think that what you say is solid fact. ;)

Thanks, Kimmie! I will definitely try to share any tips that I learned. Most of them are very product-centric and the rest of them are very my-face-specific (where I should put the darker contour colors, etc...). I'm still learning how to put it on myself the right way, so we'll see how it goes. :)

I am in the middle of trying to find a new skincare regimen. I used a skincare set for a while and it worked, but now my skin looks even worse than when I started it! Ugh! Your skin looks great--so it obviously worked for you!

When I get the hang of it, I'll definitely share what I know! :)

Wow -- you look great (not that you didn't before!), and I really love the colors in this outfit. The green of the cardigan looks great next to that scarf.

You look so preppy and "fresh" in this outfit! And, yes, I love your new make-up look. That's a really good idea to get a professional consult. I should probably add that to my list of things to do.

Whitney said...

Aw, thanks Lily! I thought the scarf/cardigan combo was too easy and classic not to pair up!

Whitney said...

Thanks, Erin! I am drawn to simple, preppy looks--so I totally take that as a compliment.

A professional consult at a spa is much better than going to a counter or a Mary Kay lady. I mean, they're nice and they have good stuff, I just felt like she really cared about what I wanted and my technique more than trying to get me to buy everything.
