What I Wore:
Shoes: Dress Shoes Wearhouse - $13
Dress: c/o eShakti
Cardigan: LOFT - giftcarded
Necklace: Blogger friend gift from Fran
Earrings: Target - $13
This past weekend, Fins and I attended an Open House at my headmaster's house. We are (read: I am) never sure what exactly to wear to these kinds of fancy/semiformal/wine-drinking-hors d'oeuvres-eating shindigs, so I opted for semi-casual-formal and thought it was the perfect opportunity to wear this gorgeous little dress that eShakti sent over from their spring line. I also plan to wear this to a bridal shower this coming weekend -- so if any attendees happen upon this post before Saturday, act surprised, okay?
I fell head-over-heels for this dress because it reminds me so much of my Jason Wu for Target dress--same silhouette, same amazing fit, and complete with pockets! So, if you missed out on the Jason Wu Poplin dress (and you highly regret it), eShakti has some awesome options that are so similar (red/blue poplin, white with yellow polka dots, and a purple one similar to mine)--and I want them all. It fits like a glove--I sent over my measurements and eShakti made it perfect-to-order. And, eShakti was nice enough to provide a 20% (!) discount on your order by using the code LNGTHELNES at checkout (ends March 10th). Win-Win.
Yes, it's true that I kind of broke my no-c/o streak. I intended to buy a nice spring dress to wear to multiple functions, so I justified it by saying that I'd probably buy this dress (or another dress at some point) anyway. Don't be too mad at me, okay? Because...I may or may not have something in the works for all of you soon. :)
Side note: I was in the process of falling over in the second picture up there. I didn't actually fall, but it made for an okay picture...!

You look great as usual. But WOW YOUR HAIR IS GORGEOUS!! Seriously, like a hair commercial.
This dress is seriously stunning on you. Do you not normally wear light pastel colors? I feel like I'm looking at a different Whitney LOL. But you look SO GOOD. Love the light blue with a light gray cardigan. & the necklace. & the shoes. Okay I'll stop. This outfit is just adorable.
This dress is seriously so adorable! I love it!
Very cute! I've seen other bloggers do the eShakti thing and not have as good of luck as you with the fit. Yours seems to fit perfectly!
This dress silhouette is magical on you. I also like the light blue and gray palette with the pop of print from the shoes and the girly details (pintucking, bow belt). And you were having a crazy good hair day, too! One of my absolute favorite outfits from you so far. :)
Omg! You look beautiful! What a gorgeous cut and color on you. And your hair? LOVE IT. Also, I totally love that you posted a picture of yourself tipping over. You look darling. (And I love that you tagged that necklace as "franny necklace." Awesome.
so pretty! I got my eShakti skirt today - can't wait to style it!
this is so pretty! It's so soft and girly. I don't have much else to say but...pretty
also: franny necklace <3
I'll forgive you for breaking the c/o streak because you look so adorable. ;) Seriously (I hope you you know I was being sarcastic) - great outfit. I have to check eShakti out - I have a weakness for poplin dresses.
Hi Whitney! This outfit is so pretty, and I love those plaid/gingham shoes. I just discovered your blog and I love it! I'm applying to school to get a credential next year and it gives me hope that you can live on a teacher budget and still dress cute. :)
LOVE your shoes!!! The whole outfit is great!

Everything just works together so beautifully! That dress screams Spring and I can't wait for it to get here!

I love the Jason Wu dress silhouette on you, so obviously this gets a major thumbs up from me. I contemplated getting a similar dress from eshakti but thought was turned off by the prospect of ironing a cotton dress. Totally regretting it now. You look amazing!
And um... how do you fall when you are standing straight up?
lol at "Blogger friend gift" you mean it wasn't a family heirloom that your mother saved from her garage sale pile? Or you bought it on ebay and you are passing it off as a gift?
This dress is seriously adorable on you!!
It's such a classic cut that I imagine it would look great on anyone!
Woohoo! Glad you approve! :) You SHOULD regret it. (I'm guilting you into getting one so we can be dress twinsies as well as cardigan twinsies).
I'm not sure how that happened, actually. I was twisting my feet around to show off my shoes and I started leaning over, but I held it together long enough for the camera to flash!
It's a gorgeous dress, for sure! I am READY for spring, too!
These shoes are super awesome--they were a great find! Thanks!!!
Thanks, Megan! Whew! I'm glad you guys didn't scream at me and tell me how awful I am. ;)
These dresses are seriously amazing (and comfortable!).
I am a big fan of feminine/soft/girly. I just don't do it enough!
Franny necklace--all for you! Thank you! :)
I try to be honest about where I get my schtuff. ;) I promise I didn't pay her off to get it for me!
Oooh! Sounds lovely! I love their clothes!
Thanks, Brynn! Sometimes you find a dress and you just know that it will work on you! The hair was kind of a fluke--I forgot to use hairspray, but it worked out well for me!
I so agree--I should have lived in the 50s! That silhouette is my favorite. Sometimes my hair decides to co-operate! :) Thanks, Carrie!
I've had very good luck with eShakti -- especially with this dress! It's a stunner!
I really enjoyed wearing it, so that makes it even better! Thanks, Rachel!
That's so interesting -- I don't know if I wear pastels often or not! I guess I don't! I've always thought pastels worked best with my hair/skin tone, but I suppose I've gone the way of neutrals and darker colors for work. I might have to break my pastels out a little more. :) Thanks, Lynette!
I think the same thing about you every time I see a new post! You are like a hair master! :)
that dress is so cute! i love the pale blue color and your coordinating necklace (i've had my eye on that too from f21). lovely pick, whitney!!
Awww...thanks!! Honestly, if I hadn't become a doctor, I think I would've liked to become a hairstylist/makeup artist. Sometimes I think about going to beauty school and doing hair on the side.
