Spirit Colors

What I Wore:
Blazer: Target - giftcarded ($30)
Lace tank: Target - $14
Belt: J. Crew - $10
Skirt: Target - $23
Shoes: Endless.com - $20
Necklace: Forever21 - $24
Earrings: Forever21 - $3

Thursday, we had a school-wide pep rally for homecoming and the dress up theme was "Sprit Day." I'm all about subtle participation, so I chose to wear our school colors (navy, grey, and white) in a pretty typical outfit. The outfit is pretty basic, but I love the textures of this lace top and navy semi-bouclé skirt. I felt rather "at home" in this, and I was glad to be back in an accord with my clothes.

After the pep rally, however, I changed into sneakers and workout attire (complete with a sweat-headband) to play the 8th grade vs. faculty basketball game (AKA my annual reminder that I have no hand-eye coordination). I mean, I ran a half-marathon, guys...and I was much less tired at the end of that than playing a couple quarters of basketball.

I didn't get a picture of the entire ensemble, but here's the most proof I'm willing to give you:

Picture taken post five quarter-length games. Rough.
I can't believe I'm posting this on the internet.

Now, the rest of the outfit included basketball shorts and Vibrams.
Yes, I played basketball in my Five Fingers. I'm that hardcore.
(Not really, I just wanted an excuse not to wear the awful knee socks the faculty coach wanted us to wear. Sneaky, right?)

Do you run in your vibrams? I'm very curious about trying them as I tend towards injury very easily....But I'm also worried because when I've tried to be more of a forefoot striker with my running I get achilles tendon problems and I know the vibrams force you to be a forefoot striker...maybe I should just give up on running

That skirt is adorable!!!

I love how subtle you are here. I'd totally pull the same route- sophisticated yet not distracting!

Happy Friday!

I love how simple this looks at first glance, then you begin to notice all the lovely textures and patterns and how well they go together. :)

Gray and navy is one of my most favorite color combinations - you look great! I love all the textures you used here. It's interesting without being overdone.

I'm having a great visual of you playing basketball in your Vibrams - haha! That's so awesome.

wait, homecoming? Isn't it, like, January?

I love your outfit with the different textures and subtle colors. I love that the stripes on your shoes match the stripes in your belt. Super cute!

And you wear Vibrams? LOL I THOUGHT YOU WERE STYLISH, WHITNEY. IT HAS ALL BEEN A LIE.

We celebrate basketball season's homecoming in January every year. The Upper School has their own separate football homecoming, but that's another story. :)

I was disappointed that the far away picture didn't show the details (ridiculous expectations of a style blogger, right?), but in the end, I am glad that it looks simple from far away, but the best part is the close up.

Bahahaha about Vibrams! I definitely don't wear them for looks -- they're just for running/pilates/yoga (and apparently basketball). I would expect to be ridiculed in public if I wore them on a regular basis.

Agreed -- I love blue and grey together!

Oh, let me tell you, I looked beyond ridiculous! Thankfully, I have such sweet kiddos that they would never let me know that they thought so, too. ;)

Thanks, Carrie! I think it would be an entirely different outfit without the textures and patterns!

Exactly! I want the kids to know that I care enough to participate, but I don't care enough to go crazy with it. ;)

It has a much more expensive look to it, too! I seriously don't think anyone would ever guess it's from Target. :)

I do run in them! The first time I ever ran ten miles, I ran it in my Five Fingers. :) I switch between these and my New Balance Minimus shoes depending on how far/fast I want to go (and how much I want to work my calf muscles -- they get more of a workout in my Vibrams, believe it or not!). I swear by minimal shoes -- it changed how I run and I don't get half the aches/pains I used to get with "normal shoes." Vibrams and minimal shoes force you to be moppy toe through running!you're not supposed to tippy toe through running!

I love that you posted the post basketball picture!

Whit, high five to this outfit. have we seen this skirt before? it's so pretty! I love the classic navy/white combo.

and you still look adorable in all of your sweatiness. i hate you.

ok, just kidding. bffs again.

P.S. This week was a little crazy for me. I'm sending out your necklace on Monday!

That's so awesome! I hope you'll do a little post about it and show us. :)
It's a fun part of being a teacher, right?

Woo! High five back atcha! This is the first time I've worn it, but I promise it was a 2012 buy!

Hate all you want, it was a totally staged picture, right? In person, I looked like a goober. :)
Whew. Couldn't handle it if you for real hated me, though.

PS - Take your time! You're such a sweetie! :)

I debated about posting it, but since I technically wore the outfit for about half of my day.... haha!

Thanks, Heather! My school has a pretty strict dress code for its teachers, so we all try to keep it as professional as possible. Best of luck with your basketball fundraiser!
