Peplum at Work

What I Wore:
Necklace: Target - $15
Shirt: Charlotte Russe - $18
Cardigan: Target - $17
Belt: From a skirt
Skirt: NY&Co - giftcarded ($15)
Shoes: Target - $30

I have unintentionally made this the week of Whitney in black and white. I tried to make up for it by incorporating a little color, despite the fact that I truly wanted to wear a black pencil skirt with this outfit and make it all Victoria Beckham-esque. I think that outfit has potential for the future. I really like peplum and I'm glad that I re-discovered this shirt from the depth of my closet.

Nobody has believed that I got this cardigan/jacket from Target...on the clearance rack. I've had multiple compliments...and the librarian I work with even took about a three minute inspection (seriously, imagine a seamstress examining an item of clothing...she was thorough) of the cardigan while we were discussing lesson plans and collaboration opportunities.
I'm pretty sure that she concluded it was awesome.

I've also concluded it's awesome! I love this style jacket with peplum. You could really wear any color pencil skirt on the bottom and change up the look.

So jealous. You totally are channeling that Beckham-esque vibe. And that sweater/cardi/blazer- fantastic!

That is a really great jacket! I usually hate peplum, but this look is really great!

I actually thought your cardi was a blazer! silly me!

So cute! I love the cardigan! :)

I love how you belted your peplum shirt! I'm not a huge peplum fan, but I love how that looks on you.

The cardigan over the peplum really works on you! I'm hesitant to wear my peplum tops with something over them but apparently I should give it a try.

I love this outfit! the peplum, the pencil skirt, the expensive looking Target cardigan, all of it. It's so girly and polished. :)

Very ladies who lunch :) Love the pop of color in the skirt--a black skirt would have been too much for the kids I think :)

Peplum is so cute on you! And that top is so perfect with the skirt!

I really like this outfit! I have three peplum tops sitting in my closet that I have yet to wear because I was unsure on how to style them for the classroom. I was reluctant on wearing them with a cardigan, thinking that it would look silly, but you've proved that it looks quite the opposite! I'll definitely pull one out tomorrow and see what I can do! Thanks for the inspiration. :)

Your jacket/sweater does look so much fancier than Target!

Tee hee, love the librarian bit! We do love our cardigans! :)

I adore the entire outfit! I missed out on buying a similar skirt from eloquii. I just love that color. It really pops with this look.

Yay for collaboration with librarians! :) (says the aspiring school librarian)
You're on the roll with the black and white - I really like how you incorporated color! It's just right. And that berry-colored skirt is so cute!

Whitney said...

I love my librarian! I don't know what I'd do without her sometimes! :)
I tried to go for a path less traveled with the berry skirt -- so glad it worked out how it did!

I am glad I snatched this skirt up, for sure! I saw a similar color at Target a while back...not sure if you can still find it!

Whitney said...

Agreed! I think this cardigan is timeless -- I hope it lasts as long as I want to wear it!

Whitney said...

This is the only peplum top I own because I've been so unsure about how often I'd wear it. I really like the cut -- it's really flattering with skirts and definitely makes sense with some longer sleeves! :)

The top was a rescue from the black hole in my closet -- I lost it for a few months, but I'm glad to have it back in my life!

Whitney said...

Ha! I love that description! I agree that the black skirt would have been a little overkill for work -- it's so funny how the same silhouette in a different color can mean a world of difference!

Whitney said...

I am a fan of girly -- I think I'm finally starting to fully embrace that as a central truth of my "style." :) Thanks!

I was hesitant at first, too, because I wasn't sure how the peplum silhouette would work. I think that it really helped to belt the peplum to make sure there was some definition!

Whitney said...

Thanks, Brynn! I just commented to someone else that I think the belting helped it look more cohesive with the cardigan. I'm not sure how the outfit would have looked without it.

Whitney said...

I really love this cardigan, too! It's so warm and comfy, but polished and classic!

Whitney said...

Easy mistake to make! The material is really thick and sturdy!

Whitney said...

I haven't found peplum to be the best look on me, especially with pants, but I thought the solid black top was easier to style!

Whitney said...

Woo! I have such envious feelings about Victoria Beckham. I kind of want to be her sometimes. haha!

Whitney said...

haha! Thanks, Elissa! I'm glad you agree with my sweet librarian friend. :) I completely agree about mixing it up with different color skirts! I might have to give it a try...

I adore my school librarian. You guys rock! :)
