Let's Hear it for the Boys

What I Wore:
Shoes: Old Navy - $22
Pants: JCPenney - $25
Polka dot top: LOFT - $10
Blazer: Target - giftcarded ($30)
Belt: from a pair of shorts
Scarf: gift
Earrings: gift

I'm desperately trying to follow my "wear pants to work once a week" goal for this year, so this outfit was my first attempt. I think all of you know how much I struggle with finding pants that fit well, so I snatched these up back in December faster than you can say "shopping hiatus in 2013."

This outfit has such a menswear look to it -- especially for my feminine skirt-wearing tendencies! I originally had a plain white shirt in mind for this outfit with the scarf, but I thought the dots added a little something fun and kept it from being too boyish*.
*Not that there's anything wrong with that. Gotta be politically correct here, right? All I'm saying is...my style is really not that masculine, but it's nice to branch out and add in some boyish touches!

At some point, I'm going to become the blog that has too many asterisks and annotations. You guys know I mean well...right?

Love the polka dots and the asterisks. Great outfit - I think you've given me an idea for my wardrobe so thanks! And Happy Monday!

It may not feel so boyish to you if you wore the pants, shirt, scarf, and shoes with a colorful cardigan or jacket. It might make you feel more "at home" in pants with more feminine touches. :) I however LOVE your look here and your new pants look awesome!

Great outfit! I especially love the jacket. Way to step outside your comfort zone :)

Hey, you look good for your first "wearing pants one day to work" resolution! Love it! And you are right, the dots really add a feminine touch. Btw- I won't get sick of the annotations and asterisks- they are always a bit of hilarity in everyday!

I don't think this is too boyish at all! The scarf helps with that. Great outfit--love that shirt!

I actually really like this! I'm with you though, I used to wear pants all the time, but so prefer skirts and dresses. This outfit give me hope for looking cute in pants though!

I love the dots on this shirt! And coming from the girl who owns only maybe 10 skirts (really need to get on that closet inventory so I know for sure) I love the pants look!! Can't wait to see what else you come up with for your pants day :)

I love that you're adding more pants to your weekly wardrobe. I need to try the exact same thing with bottoms that aren't jeans. Adding that blazer and adorable polka dot skirt make this an adorable combination! Happy Monday, lady!

Those pants look great on you! And, yes, the polka dots with the plaid scarf really make this outfit stand out in a good way. A plain white shirt would have been too blah!

Super cute outfit! Love the whole thing from top to bottom!

I love that you have a "fashion goal" for the year. Ironically my goal last year was to wear skirts once/week in the winter. And after I got in the habit some weeks I wore them twice! Posting definitely helps keep this accountable.

2. love your nail polish!! i have bare nails right now and I feel naked.
3. your legs look fantastic in those pants.

super cute outfit! As a usual boyish dresser, I'd say you pulled it off nicely. The pants look great!

I love this outfit! I normally wear slacks to work so my goal is to wear more skirts and dresses this semester. I bought a great beige skirt with black polka dots, but I don't know how to style it! Do you have any suggestions?

Love this---when I saw it on pinterest earlier, I got a big smile and thought "she nailed another one!" nicely done, lady---looks great and is an awesome mix---the shoes are a great finale!

I love this polka dot tank! It's perfect for layering!

The pants are super comfy, too. Win. Win. Win. Not sure why the third "win," but I'm sure there's room for it somewhere!

This was so nice! Thank you! :)

That's too funny that our goals are opposite of each other! I'm hoping that pants-wearing will come more naturally!

Thanks, Megan! I think I surprised myself with this one, but I didn't feel "out of place" in it at all. :)

I definitely love these pants -- definitely hanging onto them for a while! I agree about just a plain white shirt...but I made a two second change into this one. It was an easy match!

Thanks, Pia! I am really loving polka dots!

Enjoy the jeans while you can! Seriously. :)
Have a great week, Callie!

It's nice to have wearing pants as a goal -- it's definitely forcing me to think outside of my comfort zone of skirts and the occasional dress!

Good to know! I always feel like I look manly and frumpy when I wear pants. Ridiculous? Yes, but that's how I roll.

Whitney said...

Thanks, Clare! I'm glad you appreciate my little asides. There's always so much explaining I feel like I have to do! hahaha!

I got this blazer in the camel color, too, and it was such a great find! I'm definitely branching out!

Great idea! I love the idea of wearing it with a colorful blazer. Does it count as the same outfit if I do? :)
