What I Wore:
Shirt: LOFT - $10
Scarf: gift from my sweet best friend
Earrings: Forever21 - $3
Cardigan: Target - $10
Jeans: Target - $15
Boots: Target - $35
When I first wore this cardigan, I mentioned that it had been hanging in my closet for a while because I was unsure about how to style it with anything but "like colors." So, I thought I'd exhaust all possibilities with "like colors" until I got some inspiration otherwise. Did you know how much navy, pink, and white I have in my closet? I might never have to change it up with other colors.
I've also mentioned before about how I tend to overthink things--and I tend to go out of my way to avoid the obvious "typical" pairings. I had a revelation the other night when Fins and I played "Scattergories" with another couple. Scattergories is basically a game that, within a certain time limit, you have to create examples of a topic that starts with a specific letter (Example: Topic Animals, Letter K--I'd come up with "koala").
I spent most of the time trying to stay away from the obvious answer, only to write it down and discover that it was, in fact, a unique response (everyone else put "kangaroo"). I always try to challenge myself out of a comfort zone...and most of the time it's unnecessary.
In a profession that constantly challenges me to think outside of the box and plan for the unexpected, thinking inside the box is okay sometimes.
Lifelong learner, I am.

I think I do the same thing! I have a lot of very nice "staple" pieces that would look so classic together, but I avoid pairing them because I just feel like "Well THAT'S an obvious outfit." Nice little reminder. ;)
I love the combination of navy and pink - I like this outfit because it's a little unexpected but it doesn't look like you just threw it together.
Sometimes I'm the same way with my clothes. I try really hard not to be boring/predictable, but sometimes the best outfits are those "easy" ones :)
I recently acquired a contrast trim cardi like yours for Christmas only mine is ivory with a black trim. I found it ridiculously difficult to pair it. I was dumbfounded because of the two-tone-ness, even though they were simple neutrals. Similar to you, I have found that it's easiest to wear it with like colors. I pinned this outfit recently:

The sequins are a great idea to spice up the monotonousness of the black and whites that I've been doing. I'm totally staying inside the box with this one. Here's an example of what I mean: http://gochicorgohome.com/explore/members/4749/photos/586450
If you have any thoughts I'd appreciate it!
I really like the sweater! I can see it working really well with bright tanks or bright tops...polka dots, stripes...Pinterest is a really good starting point, for sure!
I think that starting with what's easy is good for us -- we can branch out with it later, right? And I can always think of more ways to wear it when it's not MY sweater. ha!
I like navy with anything--perhaps that's why I have so much of it in my closet! It's a nice neutral that isn't over-worn like black or khaki.
I completely agree with you! Simple styles are always my favorite! I just need to chill out a little. ;)
Yes! So glad someone is in the same boat as I am! Let's work on that, shall we?
