Adaptability

What I Wore:
Dress: Target - $27
Cardigan: Christmas gift
Necklace Forever21 - $25
Belt: Anthro via eBay - $33
Tights - Target - $5
Boots: Target - $35
Lint and Fuzz: Sorry 'bout that

I have intended to wear this dress with boots, tights, and a warmifying cardigan for quite some time -- if for no other reason than to show how versatile this dress really is. Granted it's still a little on the short side, I think that the tights makes that a little less noticeable.

One thing I realized about my wardrobe after my closet inventory is the fact that I tend to buy items that I can wear in multiple seasons. I've bought a lot of tanks and layerable tops to a point where I really can't separate my closet based on seasons (except for the heavier cardigans and coats). If nothing else, I think that's one thing I can compliment myself for doing. I'm feeling really good about the no-shopping pledge. It has only been a week, but I have yet to feel any major urge to buy anything or make a wish list. I'm content.
Apparently I am adaptable, as well.

(By the way, I've been catching a lot of comments that shows up in Blogger, but Disqus hasn't been posting. I promise I'm not deleting your comment or ignoring any of you on purpose! I have tried to email a few of you to answer your questions or acknowledge your comment, but I haven't been able to get to all of you!)

Now, before I make up any more words, I'm going to wrap up this post...
XO,

After seeing your inventory of your closet, you totally have enough clothes to last you the entire year! And you are right about your adaptability- so many combinations within your closet! Way to go. 1 week down. 51 more to go! You can do it!

This is a tough time to not buy. Lots and Lots and lots of sales! I almost never change out my closet for Summer/Winter either.

Hi! I noticed that you have a few items you got via Ebay. How do you shop on Ebay? For instance, do you for a specific item (like your belt) you look for, or a specific brand (Anthropologie)? Or do you just peruse?

Love the outfit by the way!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you live in the South? It seems to be much easier to have a seasonless wardrobe(or even sometimes necessary to have a seasonless wardrobe) considering how much the weather can fluctuate in the "winter". I know for us, waking up on Monday it was 31* outside, but on Friday the high is predicted to be 78*....you have to have options for layering and you can't put away your warm weather stuff because you never know when you'll need it! I know some days, the low is in the 30s, but the high is in the 60s or low 70s, so I need multiple layers in just one day!

I love that about layering - it truly makes your wardrobe seasonless! I find that rather than texture or style, I have a hard time with certain colors - they feel too bright or light & pastely & summery to be worn in winter, for example. Wearing my coral pants in winter was a huge challenge for me - just feels like such a summer color!

So cute---and looks so comfy too. Definitely versatile outfit--great for your classroom with kiddos, good for running to the store, could wear to church, out on a date, etc etc. You're coming up with great combos from the closet and I can imagine there's an entire year of combos still in there!!

Such a cute outfit - and I'm going to have to use the word "warmifying" sometime soon. ; )
I think my favorite part is the bow belt ... I've been eyeing some cute ones at Macy's, but I'm waiting for a better clearance price. :)

The dress doesn't look short at all with the tights! Super cute with the bright colored cardigan :)

I love this outfit!
I love your boots and dress especially. I wish there was a Target near where I live. You seem to get some really great pieces there.

I'm still sad that I missed out on this dress. When I finally saw it hit the clearance racks I could only find a size XL. So mad!

I love things that are seasonless, because I wear things year round as well, with the exception of shorts, linen skirts, and thick sweaters.

Oh and I never made it around to commenting on your post about your shopping ban for the year. That's insane! But I'm glad you have the exceptions in place, because it seems doable and realistic, so good luck with that!

Another adorable outfit! I'm totally kicking myself for not getting a similar polka dot dress that Target carried last summer. I love how you styled this for the colder weather. I pretty much give up my skirts and dresses this time of year, but you're inspiring me to try some new combos!

I love the ruffled edge on this cardi! I have the same Anthro belt in grey but I would love one in brown. Hope you are having a great week :)

I do the same thing with my clothing - I try to buy things that I can wear all year round. I have a few pairs of shorts and a few thick sweaters and sweater dresses, but other than that, everything can work the whole year. It's awesome to keep all my clothes in my little closet all the time, not having to worry about storing out of season clothes.

The dress you have on is perfect for styling in different ways - I love those "blank slate" dresses!!

Great minds think alike, Brynn! I have the basics covered for the "extreme" weather, but most of it is easy to transition all year.

You're so right about this dress! It's a perfect basic and statement in one!

I love this belt! I would love it in more colors, too! My mom picked out this cardigan -- it's so pretty and soft! Moms always know best!
Enjoy your week!

Thanks so much! I think that I got this dress this past summer, so it's probably the same dress you're talking about! I think they have a couple pretty polka dot dresses online -- so snatch one up soon! I stick with my skirts rain or shine, so I force them to adapt. ;)

Not to rub it in or anything, but this dress is pretty awesome. ;)

You're right about the shopping ban being insane, but there's some kind of weird "centered" peace that I'm feeling lately. I don't have any pressure to find something to go with something else, nor am I thinking about making a shopping list. I'm kind of just letting the outfits happen on their own...look at me going all hippie!

Thanks, Dani! Target is a pretty awesome store -- my wallet disagrees, but I love it. They typically have everything online -- I know they sold these boots on their website!

Whitney said...

That's good news! I am always mindful of my hems and cuts when I wear things to work!

Whitney said...

haha! So glad you enjoyed my inventive words! :)
I found a really cheap little bow belt on eBay, but I upgraded to this one. I really like how they both fit with my skirts and dresses!

Whitney said...

YES! This was incredibly comfy! I wore it to church, lunch, date, and errands, so you definitely hit the nail on the head there!

Whitney said...

So true -- layering has changed my wardrobe for the better!
I agree about coral -- but it's one of those few colors that I think I can pull off really well, so I will take any excuse to wear it any season. :)

Yes, I do live in the South. The weather down here is just ridiculous. I so know where you're coming from! This past week has ranged from 17 degrees to 58 degrees...so it helps to have a wardrobe that allows some flexibility. In the summers, it gets in the 100s, so that's quite a bit of variability to deal with. I'm not sure if it's necessarily easier to get dressed overall, but it's easier to have a wardrobe full of layers!

Whitney said...

Hi Amber! Thanks for the compliment!
I tend to shop for specific items and brands. When I bought this belt, I was actually looking for a different Anthro bow belt from this past fall, but I thought this one was an excellent substitute. I am really careful about what I buy and who I buy from, but I do peruse from time to time!

Whitney said...

lalalallalalalalala I can't hear you. Sales, schmales. Shop enough for the two of us! ;)

Whitney said...

I think I have enough clothes to last a lifetime...ha! I think I can I think I can! :)

Whitney said...

Maybe easy isn't the word I was looking for...more like necessary to have a seasonless wardrobe because you just never know what the weather will be like in the fall/winter! And even in the summer, you need layers because it's hot as hades outside but most offices/buildings air condition you into the Arctic so you need something on your arms for that!

Whitney said...

Agreed! We have a lot to consider when we buy clothes, for sure. I am 100% with you about indoors being opposite of outdoors. What's up with that?!

Whitney said...

I can't separate my clothes either! Whenever people say things like "my winter clothes" I'm like...what? I don't have those. Maybe it's a little bit different since I have to be as covered up in the summers as the winter but I still don't have enough clothes to separate it by season. I think it's almost easier to have clothes you can wear all year round :)
