The Teacherest Outfit Ever

What I Wore
Necklace: J.Crew(ish??) via eBay - $20
Striped tank: Target - $12
(it also comes in a blue version...and I want it...)
Cardigan: NY&Co - $4
Crops: Target - $15
Shoes: Payless - $20
Belt: Target - $4
Earrings: Claire's (ha!) - $6

This was another in-service outfit. In-service is a weird time as far as clothing goes...it's basically a lot of meetings and sitting, so you want to be comfortable. At my school, they don't really give us any guidelines about how to dress for in-service, but I still don't quite feel appropriate in jeans. As a presenter and group facilitator during in-service (I got to talk in front of the entire school and I led two small group sessions), I needed to be presentable, so I opted to dress nicely for the week.

Can I just say that I'm a BIG fan of this tank? I seriously had a dream about it after I saw it in the store.  I think that once your subconscious begins demanding a tank this cute around tax-free-weekend (and said tank is on sale), you have no choice but to go back for it. Now I'm wanting the blue version of it...I'm just hoping my subconscious doesn't start nagging me about it again. I think my subconscious doesn't like paying taxes, so hopefully that extra percentage will keep my dreams tank-top-free.

Overall, there's just something about cropped pants that screams "teacher!" to me.
I'm pretty sure that every teacher owns a pair of cropped pants (if you don't, you should)...I actually own about three or four pair of these pants, but I haven't been able to squeeze into them for a while. I'm thinking it's "make-up-for-lost-time" time. You may or may not be seeing a lot of these pants until it gets too cold to wear them.
That's a fair warning, right?

i love tops that have a great print or lots of different colors, it helps finding different ways to wear it each time. i think you look GREAT and i agree, i would have defaulted to dressing more "up" than "down" based on the meetings and work you have to do at your school right now. have a good weekend whitney!

Ha, cropped pants and capris ARE so teacher-y. When we have workdays, it is a sea of them! But consider me a rebel...I don't own a single pair and plan to keep it that way. I can't stand the way cropped pants look on me! I am always much more comfortable in a skirt or dress.

Definitely teacheristic style. I do love to mix tops with pants when I go to work but I do not have cropped ones.

I wear capris all the time at work! I have the same ones in black and brown, and they are actually from Wal-Mart which makes me feel thrifty.

I used to wear cropped pants all the time but for some reason I haven't worn them as much this year. They are a staple, though, for work wear!

Very teacher-y indeed. I like how you broke up all the black with the vibrant top and necklace. It keeps the outfit from looking too stuff and makes it super fun. For my in-service days I usually wear jeans, which is rare for me. But I probably shouldn't because I'll inevitably get misidentified as a student. However after those two days, it's all skirts and dresses from there.

I get misidentified as a student, too! My first year, one of our maintenance guys got onto me for being in the break room. I flashed my badge at him and he apologized, but it wasn't a very fun experience! haha!

I agree--they are definitely a staple! They're really easy to wear in summer, fall, and spring!

That's perfect! I need to find a good pair in khaki or a brown color...

Cropped bottoms are really comfortable--and you can wear them in all seasons!

haha, you're right! Super teachery! I find them to be really comfortable, but I refuse to wear capris. There's something about that extra five inches that makes cropped pants a little more acceptable. ;)

I agree! I went through a phase where I only got solids, but now I'm trying to diversify with more prints and colors.
Enjoy your weekend, Heidi!

So cute gal! Ha no work crop pants here---just one pair for hiking ;) I don't find them flattering on me for some reason...but I'm a huge fan of the dressy bermuda short for work. The length cut is much more flattering on my leg! You're looking great! And congrats on being a leader at in-service--always great to have your strengths and leadership acknowledged in the work place.

Just had your blog recommended to me as I was complaining on Facebook about having to get back into my "teacher" clothes after a summer in shorts and tanks. Sooooi love your style and spent my son's nap time today picking out outfits for my first week back using many of your as inspiration. Have fun in school this week and thanks for sharing your great outfits!

Too funny! I am not a fan of cropped pants for exercise, but I think they're really comfy for work.
Thanks for the encouragement about in-service! I was SO terrified to be in the spotlight, but I wasn't nervous during the activities. I think I can look forward to being volunteered for it in the future--ha!
