This summer, I added a lot of outfits to my outfit spreadsheet (discussed here) and I filled it full of (what I consider) fabulous outfit ideas so I don't run out of inspiration, ideas, or feel pressured to save an outfit for a specific day. I honestly think that since I started doing that, my outfits have improved quite a bit--and it has allowed me to wear something different and sometimes unexpected like this one. I'm no longer wearing my favorite outfits or what I consider the "Best" on special occasions.
However, this is one of those outfits I've been holding out on you guys. I wanted to wear it when school started, but I thought it was a little too crazy for the first week of school (you know, too early to confuse the kiddos), but perfect to brighten up the second week (you know, the week after the first when we're so tired and exhausted...and realizing that we have about nine more months of weeks like this).
Not to toot my own horn, but I am a pretty big fan of this outfit. Toot!
I think it would look pretty awesome with some brown boots and a cardigan when the temps cool off. Just don't be surprised if you see this combo again. Or I'll sneakily wear it on a weekend and not post it so I can keep claiming that I don't officially repeat outfits.
Linking up with Everybody Everywear for a back to school outfit!

I love this outfit. I can't believe that skirt was only $20 at JCPenney. It looks like a really expensive J. Crew skirt!

I love the pattern mixing you have going on. Usually it's something classic like stripes and floral, but that fab skirt really changes it up. And I love the color scheme you have going on too - super pretty! I need to fill out the worksheet you sent me and try to work some of this wardrobe magic in my own life. Hope you have a great weekend, Whitney!

Lovely outfit
J. Crew showed an outfit pairing just like this earlier this year. Maybe you need a second job as a J. Crew stylist! And BTW, we are mind-melding again as I'm wearing shoes in almost the exact same color as you today!!
Such amazing pattern mixing!! I love the idea of the belt to break it up a little bit while still flowing from one pattern to the next! I think I even have a similar look I can now try inspired by this...thanks!

TOOT! I love it too. Great job mixing prints!

I too love this outfit. I think another way to change it up would be with a different belt, like a skinny belt instead of the thicker one. again, so jealous of your skirt collection :(
Haha toot away gal---I love it too! :)
Beautiful print on skirt.
haha! Toot! :)
I agree! I had a yellow skinny belt with it, but at the time, I also had yellow shoes. So I switched to the thick belt, then changed shoes and forgot to switch the belt back. I didn't want to be all matchy-matchy--and I thought the shoes broke the outfit up nicely, and the belt toned down all the pattern.
It's definitely a new-ish thing for me! I'm really liking mixing prints!
I totally missed that outfit--but this skirt reminded me a lot of the J.Crew paisley/patterned skirts they have right now/recently.
That would be an awesome job! Of course, I'd have to moonlight...I don't think I could leave my kiddos!
Thank you, Ruby!
I agree--I thought it was a little something different! :)
I hope the spreadsheets help! Let me know if there's anything else I can add in there for you!
That's exactly what I thought when I saw it! I snatched it up, tried it on, and bought it without question!
i am a big fan of this outfit too! that skirt is something incredible. i have seen a couple lovely bloggers lately with fun skirts from jc penney, maybe i need to drop in there sometime. i miss out on a lot since i only ever shop at target and the goodwill!!
I have to stay far away from J.C. Penney--the clothes are inexpensive, but it would be really easy to go overboard!
thanks, Bri! I liked it with the thick belt for that reason! I will have to try a thin belt next time..and maybe some boots... :)
whitney you are rocking the pattern mixing!!
you look so cute! love the pattern mixing :)

I'm a big fan of this outfit too! I love the pattern of the skirt and those shoes are such a pretty color. Popping over from EBEW.
