Imperative Statement

What I Wore:
Shoes: Target - $20
Skirt: Target - $22
Shirt: Target - $20
Belt: From a skirt
Necklace: Baublebar - $24
Badge: c/o work.

I'm linking up today with Marionberry Style's Trend of the Month!

This is what this outfit survived:
I taught five classes in a row, then had a brief lunch with some of my teacher friends.
Then, I worked two planning periods (seriously worked like mad through them!), coached almost two hours of cheer. Waited for parents to pick up kids. Got dinner. Parked far far far away from my class. Walked about a mile to get to the building. Sat through (almost) three hours of my grad class. Drove 45 minutes to get home. Stopped by Target to pick up breakfast foods then threw off my clothes for a nice shower (I thought about wearing heels, but I had enough foresight to decide not to do so. Good call, past self, good call).

I have a feeling that's going to be my Mondays from now on.

Now. About this outfit. I like it. A lot. Not only is it my absolute favorite color combo (currently, of course), but it also proves how different an outfit can look with and without a statement necklace. I took it off today during cheer practice (because all the jumping around to teach new cheers* really made this necklace impractical), and one of the girls immediately remarked that my outfit looked so different without the necklace.
See? They totally get it.
*it's okay if you have a hard time imagining this. Just pretend like this blog gives you the impression I am co-ordinated and have mad cheer skills.

XO,

Um do you raid my closet? I have that skirt in the dress! Thanks for some inspiration, I'm gonna have to try covering the dress part up with a button down like this! Looking fine girl!

The outfit is very pretty and suits you well.

I love the look! I bet the skirt would look completely different with the top tucked in and belted, but either way it's so cute. I wish my cheer coaches/teachers from high school dressed like you do. It definitely would have made class more interesting!

Love your coral shoes! I think coral/orange and navy are going to be my main "transition to fall" colors!

Whitney, that schedule sounds brutal! You look fabulous regardless, though! Love the color combo and that statement necklace is so fun. :)

Love the color of that necklace....so perfect with your skirt!

Loving the clothes at Target right now! I would totally wear that skirt but since I work from home, it would be wasted on my dog.

love it! i think i need to go to target immediately and nab this skirt from the clearance rack before it's gone. i really love merona skirts and this one is so fun. i hope you had a restful evening after the day you had!!

hahahah badge: c/o of work made me laugh out loud. I love the necklace with that skirt - it would look great with the shirt tucked in too!

Oh--next time would you take a picture without the necklace? I love your style, but I am nervous about wearing a statement necklace--you do it so well! I'd love to see how one of your outfits looks with and without the necklace... maybe that would give me the nudge I need to try one out! Thanks for all the inspiration. :)

Awesome transition season outfit! I love the punchy coral and orange (and navy is almost always an easy neutral). Lovely!

I'm so glad you decided to go with flats. This is one of my favorite outfits I've seen you in! That necklace really does have an impact!

Orange and navy might just be my new favorite color combination after seeing this outfit! You've got to love clothes that can take you through a long, busy day. And it sounds like this outfit met the demands. And the statement necklace is lovely - it polishes the look off!

Great combination - I love the striped skirt! I can definitely see how the necklace makes the outfit, your students are really on top of things! And haha about the badge - we have to wear ours on a lanyard around our necks, so it's always interfering with my statement necklaces and adding another annoying layer ;)

That orange necklace is gorgeous and looks amazing with the navy!
Visiting from Marionberry style and totally following your fab blog on GFC (Juneli #312)!

I'm exhausted just reading about your day--I hope you get some time to relax soon! I love this look! I saw that skirt at Target and passed it by, but after seeing it on someone, I want to go back and try it on!

Haha! Talk about a long Monday! Is it only Monday that will be that long? Bet it's exciting too to be back in the swing of things :)

Whitney said...

You're right! It's definitely exciting to be back into everything. Monday is my busy day of the week--which is nice to get it out of the way, but it's almost more exhausting at the front end of the week!

Whitney said...

Haha! Too funny, Shea! Sleep is definitely a major priority right now--if I don't sleep enough, I don't function. I take my relaxing time seriously, but I still get everything finished.
You should definitely go back and try it! I think they're on sale right now!

I love orange with navy--I just have to be careful because everyone associates color combinations like this with football teams (that's what I get for living in the south, right?).

So glad you found me, Juneli!

My kids are very keen on style and outfits. I think part of that is because they're all in uniforms, so anything different really catches their eyes. I would hate wearing it as a lanyard! That's got to be pretty hard to deal with. :(

Whitney said...

I agree! :) This outfit was surprisingly comfortable!

Whitney said...

My feet are so glad I wore flats, too! I'm glad you like this one! I think it's one of my faves, too.

Whitney said...

I agree--it was super comfortable to wear. Navy is definitely a major cornerstone of my closet.

Whitney said...

I thought of that after I posted this! I will definitely try to remember to do that in the future!
I never wore costume jewelry until very recently--I always wore pearls or an understated chain necklace, so I really know where you're coming from! Once you start wearing one, you won't be able to quit them! ;)

Whitney said...

haha! I'm glad someone picked up on that. :)
I agree--I am definitely thinking that would be a great way to remix the outfit! Maybe tucked in with boots???

Whitney said...

YOU SHOULD! I need some style inspiration for it! I tend to go matchy with pieces like this.

Whitney said...

Thanks, Tara! I imagine it will go with a lot of other things in my closet, too!

Whitney said...

Thankfully, it's only on Mondays that I have to deal with that kind of crazy. :) The rest of my week is pretty light (with exception of football games).

Whitney said...

That's a great idea! I always thought of coral and navy as more nautical and summery, but it really makes sense as a fall combo!

Whitney said...

I completely agree! I think that would be a great way to remix the outfit!
I wish more teachers dressed better, too...we've got such an opportunity to wear a variety of things, but it seems there's a stereotype of the "poorly dressed teacher" the rest of us have to overcome. ha!

Whitney said...

Thanks, Ruby!!! :)

Whitney said...

I don't raid your closet, but I truly believe that great minds think alike. :) I'm looking for some inspiration, too!!! hint hint.

heidi {literate & stylish} said...

i would probably be really matchy matchy too but it's still such a cute skirt!

Love the striped skirt and bright statement necklace! Good choice to go with cute, comfy shoes for your busy day!! Love to see other stylish teachers :)
