Today's Outfit:
Shirt: Old Navy - $20
Skirt: The Limited - $30
Shoes: Target - $20
Belt: Target - $13
Earrings: Target - $7
Bracelets: Target - $4
I'm not sure how I feel about this outfit. Part of me really likes the color and the pattern mixing. But I can't help but think something's off about it.
I think it's the shirt. I like the pattern, but I'm not sold on the style. In all honesty, I bought this shirt when I was looking for a red gingham shirt--and it wasn't quite what I was looking for, but I settled for it.
Story of my shopping habits.
I look for an item, but I can't find exactly what I want at the price I want it, so I compromise on a few aspects.
Yes, this is a gingham shirt. Yes it's a red-ish color.
The buttons are funky. They're snap buttons. And there are pockets...in the most impractical place for pockets for a woman. And the buttons and pockets make it difficult to just throw a sweater or cardigan over it to hide the hideousness.
And I can't even pronounce gingham correctly.
I think that this shirt just had its last wear. It's getting washed and donated.
Did you see that, ladies (and maybe gentlemen)? That's my process for removing clothing from my closet. Sometimes it takes one last wear for me to admit it to myself.
PS: I swear this skirt was flat and straight when I left for work this morning. *sigh*

You and your amazing skirt collection! You've really been inspiring to wear more skirts lately. I personally love this one, the color is vibrant and really pops. Lovely, Whitney!
I wish I could find that shirt! I love the peal snaps, and I could use a little extra "something" in the area of those pockets! ;)

Oh I love the shirt - I guess I have a similar piece with shorter sleeves. I like those earrings too. I also like the way you handle your clothes that have been worn for the last time. But I would be sorry to see the shirt going. I think you could try it with jeans and then decide. I usually wear it that way. A blue jeans, this kind of shirt but I do not tuck it inside. Just an idea, though, 'coz the style tips are not my thing.
I think the pattern on the shirt softens the yellow of the skirt. You always put together great outfits. I agree with Ruby keep the shirt =)
I think you look great! I love the turquoise shoes with this outfit. I think they bring it all together. I think the shirt is a keeper. you gotta love a pearl snap shirt!
Dossome :)
Oh, I want that skirt!! It's so bright and fun! And I don't think that shirt is hideous!! It's cute and has a sort of western feel to it. I bet you could wear it over a cute sundress and look like you're on your way to a picnic with your loverboy. ;)
Your shirt looks cute, but I vote get rid of it - there's nothing better than finally admitting that you don't like the way something fits/looks/is and just letting it go! I'm also still learning to not settle for something less than what I want when I buy something, so I love that you posted this even though you didn't really like the outfit - it's always a good lesson to share! And that happens to my pencil skirts all the time - I need to find some kind of mini-iron for work! :)

I completely agree! I'm glad someone else is going through what I am as far as settling for an item just for being close to what I want. I think I will take your advice--and keep looking for a shirt that better fits what I want. :)

This skirt looks like your style! I could see you styling the heck out of it!
I do like your ideas...hmmm...now I'm even more on the fence about getting rid of it! ha!
I love turquoise as a neutral! One of my friends wears these fabulous turquoise earrings with everything--and it ALWAYS works. always.
Thanks, Chris! I think the skirt is one of my favorite items in my closet!
I'd love to see how you style your version of the shirt!
I actually wore it with jeans a while back...but I thought it was a little loose fitting and not very flattering...so I thought I'd try again with a skirt...still not sold... :(
Yay for skirts! I love that you're wearing more, too! :)

oh and "loverboy" made me giggle. Just had to share. :)
I love your skirt! :) Great color!
I am a big fan of colored skirts! Thank you!
Haha I love shirts like that! however not with snap buttons, and they are certainly not cardigan friendly :\ gingham tends to not look too pleasant on me either..
but those earrings are just adorable!

Ha! I think there's a fine line between pulling of gingham in a chic way and looking...well, country. The fact that I'm from the south is hard enough as far as stereotypes go...I think that's one of the main issues with the shirt in my mind!
