Anthropologie Taste on a Target Budget

Today's Outfit:
The first of many teacher-inspired outfits.

Tanzanite is one of my favorite stones. I got this set for my birthday from my In-Laws.
Mmmmmm, sparkly.

What I'm wearing:
Top: Old Navy - Can't remember$
Skirt: Target - $21
Belt: Target - $13
Shoes: (not pictured...again...)Target - $10
Tanzanite Necklace, earrings, & ring: Gift from In-Laws

This shirt should be given a standing ovation. I mean, seriously, it has survived many a closet purge and giveaway. It has been in my closet -literally- years. Whatever it cost, it was worth the investment--I'm willing to guess I didn't pay that much for it.

Someone at work today asked me if I got my skirt at Anthropologie--and they were shocked when I told them I bought it at Target. Is it a faux pas to buy most of your wardrobe at Target? Personally, I would feel guilty spending the Anthropologie prices, but I do love some of their pieces. I don't go looking for Anthro-inspired pieces. I buy what I like. But it seems that no one can tell the difference between my taste and that of a taste that costs ten times what I pay.

I have high standards, but I don't like spending a lot on one item. When you can have quality clothes at a smaller price, why should I pay that much, right? I'm not poor, but I just can't justify paying $100 for a skirt when I can buy a similar one for one-fifth the price...and the cheaper one (for me, anyway) typically lasts just as long. Now that I think about it, I don't think I have anything in my closet other than outerwear, a couple dresses, shoes, and jewelry that cost over $50. Possibly even $40.
Does that make me thrifty or cheap?

Speaking of work, it seems like every time I go (at least this summer), I always come home with a gift. (Sweet job, right?) One of my co-workers brought me a pair of earrings back from her vacation this summer...and I'm basically in love with them:

Ohhh, new earrings, I have plans for you.

Can't beat free earrings. Told 'ya I was cheap.
XO,
W

I choose "thrifty". Very nice finds, and gorgeous earrings. They look very "Anthro" too!

You are thrifty not cheap:) It takes talent to find terrific pieces. Anyone can walk into an expensive store and find something to wear but it takes talent to walk into a regular priced store and find the gem. Plus great taste can't be bought it is born and inspired. Congrats!

I'm looking forward to many teacher outfits to come! Loving this look by the way. Simple and so pulled together. And surprisingly the lavender and green go well together. You can't ever go wrong with a pencil skirt!

Patti: Thrifty 1, Cheap 0. Thanks! :)

Bug: I agree! I think it is very J. Crew--I love their skirts, but I hardly ever buy anything from J. Crew. If I do, it's from the sale racks.

H/K: I have been surprised at all the ways I've thought up to wear the skirt. When I first saw it, the color confused me--I wasn't sure if it was a neutral or not.

Julie: Thrifty 2, Cheap 0! haha! I never thought about it as a talent before. Hmmmm...that's awesome!

Rhoda: Thanks, cutie!

Jenn: Yay! I'm so ready for the school year to start! :)

Oh girl, I love me some cheap stores for clothes. Nothing wrong with that! And if it looks expensive, well that's even better :)

(And that skirt is adorbs, by the way.)

yea! a kindred spirit! I feel the SAME way - can't spend the Anthro price when I can get same quality at Target for $10!! Guess that explains why my last Anthro purchase (which was with gift money) still hangs in my closet unworn - too guilty!! Happy I found your blog!
